Types of stamping dies
Stamping dies play a vital role in the stamping process, to make the product into the desired effect needs to be achieved through the stamping dies. Every molding structure has a corresponding mold, the first step to produce a metal part is to design the corresponding mold according to the needs.
Stamping dies can be divided into the following categories according to their stamping operation:

I. Simple stamping die, i.e., single-process die
Single punching die refers to a stamping only complete punching or drop a process. Simple stamping die can be divided into according to its guiding method:
(1) Unguided single-process die is characterized by simple structure, light weight, small size, easy to manufacture molds, low cost. But the use of the die installation trouble, die life is low, poor precision of stamped parts, the operation is not safe. The unguided simple die is suitable for stamping parts with low precision and simple shape.
(2) The guide plate type simple stamping die has high die precision, long service life, use and installation of the frame, safe operation, but the manufacturing is more complicated. Generally, it is suitable for workpieces with simple shape and small size.

(3) Guide column type simple stamping die due to the accuracy and reliability of this mold, can ensure the uniformity of the stamping gap, stamping the workpiece precision is high, long service life of the mold, and easy to install and use in the press, so the guide column type stamping die is the most widely used one of the stamping die, suitable for mass production.
II. Progressive stamping die
Definition of progressive stamping die: according to a certain sequence of procedures, in different positions of the mold to complete the punching, also known as progressive die or jump step die. The positioning principle of progressive stamping die can be divided into: the principle of guide pin positioning, the principle of side edge fixed distance, due to the number of work stations of the continuous die is more, therefore, with the continuous die punching parts, it must solve the problem of accurate positioning of the strips or bands of material before it is possible to ensure the quality of the stamped parts.

III. Composite stamping die
Definition of composite stamping die: the same station in the die at the same time to complete the hole and the shape of the two kinds of stamping die on the process. Composite stamping die according to the structure can be divided into: positive composite mold, inverted composite mold, characterized by: doubling the production efficiency; improve the quality of stamped parts; mold manufacturing precision requirements are high.
IV. Transfer Dies
The working principle of transfer die is slightly different from that of progressive die. They move the workpiece from one station to another, while the progressive die will be fixed parts on the metal bar. It’s like a professional chef moving a dish to a different stage of preparation.
Transfer dies are perfect for large, complex parts that require multiple operations. They are free to handle larger components, providing unmatched versatility.

V. Multiple die sets
Multiple die sets are the ultimate in customization and efficiency. These dies are a collection of different die groups, each designed for a specific operation and arranged in sequence. They can be simple dies, composite dies, or even progressive dies that work in concert to produce a series of parts or different features on a single part.
This setup is ideal for complex assemblies or situations where multiple parts need to be produced at once. It’s like having a symphony orchestra where each musician plays a different tune, but all the musicians harmonize perfectly to create a masterpiece.
